Born in Florida near Newport Richey, Dunedin, Fl., Schooled in Lincoln County, Tn.
Jared Pragel moved around Alabama and Tennessee because of his father's work as a district manager of convenience stores, gas stations and work in building construction.
Jared became aware of his artistic ability in the sixth grade when he and his friends drew cars and other friends wanted copies. During Junior High, teachers and friends began to suggest to Jared that he should pursue art as a career.
"People wanted me to draw things for them. I knew I could draw anything. I could make drawings reveal details identical to what I saw," said Pragel.
He graduated from high school in 1996 not knowing what he wanted to do and eventually attended a small, private college near Tampa, Fl., (Florida College.) He signed up for basic courses in Engineering. After a year, Jared came back to Tennessee and took three semesters of coursework at Motlow Community College in Tullahoma.
Jared's brother, Jonathan, helped him sign on with a company that contracted with cable companies. After a year, the brothers contracted themselves to survey cable lines when the cable companies rebuilt their systems. The brothers drew blueprints for cable systems. Jared and Jonathan traveled the U. S. for two years.
During the End of May, 2002, Jared worked in construction with his father.in December of 2001, a friend saw a drawing he was doing with pen and ink and wanted him to draw something for her. He drew a picture of snow boarders. He began to believe he might be able to make a living at art. He began to study business seriously while practicing art. In the summer and fall of 2002 Jared began making a living with pen and ink. Former teachers and friends propelled him into opportunities.
Jared Pragel's first commission was to draw the Bedford County Courthouse. Since August of 2002, he has had more than fifteen commissions, ten shows and a dozen print orders. He is expanding into North Alabama, Southern Kentucky and throughout Tennessee. Heritage Jewelers, The Art, Antiques and Collectibles Mall, The Coffee Break, Plantation House, Graystone Inn, Renegar Drugs, Dancy's in Shelbyville, Tn. Lynchburg and Fayetteville all carry Jared Pragel's drawings and prints.
Sanford Pencil Company chose to sponsor Jared Pragel as a local artist which involves supplying him with pencils, pens, brushes and pastels. They discovered him during his show at US Bank in Shelbyville.. |
